It is a great place.
Here meet the bleeding edges of two great civilisations.
One was vanquished at the cost of millions of lives. The other dominated for four hundred years before following the same way.
But both still exert a major influence on the daily lives of all who come here.
Take Jack’s CafĂ©, for example.
It is housed in a Spanish colonial building, constructed on the foundations of a Inca palace. They serve ‘Menu Del Dia’ just like in Madrid – side by side with that old Inca favourite – roasted Guinea Pig.
And then there’s Paddy’s Bar – the highest, wholly owned Irish Bar in the world.
Perhaps it would have ended better for everyone, if Paddy had just got here a bit sooner.
